Pentewan

Three images of Pentewan beach and village

Once a bustling harbour, this is all that’s left of the train line that used to bring down china clay from St Austell to Pentewan. The railway was also famous for its ‘tea treat train’ which on summer Sundays would pick up families along the route and take them down to the beach for a picnic – often with a live band and games into the evening.

A great wide beach for a long swim on all tides, sandy and shallow with a fair amount of seaweed and sealife to spot underwater – we saw a big spider crab on a recent swim.
