Mother Ivey’s Bay

Three images of the turquoise sea and sandy beach at Mother Ivey's Bay

According to legend, Mother Ivey’s Bay is named after a 16th century white witch (ie a nice one) who took care of the villagers, and was very kind…until a local greedy merchant crossed her and she cursed his field with the words: “Break the soil. Death will follow.” To this day no one will dare sow that field.

This is a stunning place, one of my absolute favourite swim spots, especially in the spring sunshine when the water is warming but it’s still quiet. Located on the north Cornish coast you do need to save this one for a calm day though as the waves can get powerful especially on an incoming tide.
